Don't Be A Zit on the Face of God

Don't Be A Zit on the Face of God

NOTE: If you are not a believer, I’m going to ask you to go ahead and close this and tune back in tomorrow. This post is for those of us from varying backgrounds in the “Christian” church.

Like melted fake Velveeta cheese, her words stuck to my soul and no amount of SOS or scraping seemed to get them to leave. My frustration was mounting. We couldn’t seem to agree. We both wanted the same thing. We both saw a need in our community and felt God asking us to do something. So, I did the only thing that I knew to do and I’ve sat with the uncomfortableness, asking my Creator for truth; resolution; and a plan. She was from one church and I was from another and there were unbelieving observers taking this all in. Both of our end goals were the same, so I wasn’t sure what the “issue” really was. I chatted some more with God. His final answer was, “Don’t be zits on my face!” Now that may seem odd or even funny to some of you, but truly it stopped me short.

When we fail to harmonize with our brothers and sisters from other denominations and backgrounds, as His hands and feet to this broken world, we are being “zits” on His face. Those outside of the church see the ugliness of our actions/words/attitudes toward other and are repelled.

Here is where I think we get into difficulty. Sometimes we think we all have to be singing the melody. All agreeing on everything. Do you know that He doesn’t care about that? (Side note: He does care about us agreeing on: Deity of God; Salvation through faith in Christ alone; Trinity; Resurrection; and Inspiration of Scripture.) He has perfectly made us all with different worship preferences to reach a very diverse world, thus different denominations. As His people, we can harmonize and fully represent the love He has for every person on this planet when we get along; work together; and support each other as we do the work of loving people. Romans 12:16 says, Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!” Romans 12:16 NLT.

May we walk as a harmonious group.

Until We Chat Again,
Crystal
